Bula!

After countless hours of flying and a stop over in Singapore the CAUKIN team arrived in Fiji in the early hours of Sunday. The journey wasn't over though and a subsequent 2 days was spent reaching Savusavu by bus and ferry. The luscious jungle, blue skies and pristine beaches made the journey worth it... it was clear Fiji was unlike anywhere we had ever been before.

Max, our contact at NGF, greeted us upon arrival and kindly invited us to stay at his home during the project preparations. The days to follow were filled from dawn to dusk with village introductions, site visits, design adaptations, material ordering and budgeting.

Both Vivili and Naweni welcomed us with a tour of their villages and homes after we presented the final designs for their approval. With great feedback and enthusiasm from the community, we look forward to working together to complete both projects within the 6 week time frame. The overwhelming friendliness of the Fijian people make this country more than just visually beautiful and it provides us with great confidence that our volunteers will leave here having enjoyed every second of their stay.

We look forward to welcoming all volunteers on Saturday and hope they are as excited as us to live in the villages and break ground on Monday!
