6 Reasons You Should Volunteer Abroad In 2019!

01. YOU'LL WORK IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT

Working in a new environment can be extremely rewarding. It is a great opportunity to work with other like-minded individuals, communities and organisations who all have a shared passion and desire to make a difference. Working abroad will open new doors by expanding your cultural awareness and boosting your expertise in areas that traditional education can not provide. If you're thinking about volunteering abroad, you should first consider this: volunteering can be demanding, and should never be thought of as a holiday - so be prepared to work hard and have a lot of fun doing so!

02. YOU'LL BECOME PART OF A NEW COMMUNITY

This is one of the main reasons people volunteer; living and working with a community gives you a fresh perspective on life in completely different environments. It is a great way to exchange knowledge and create lifelong friendships. Our volunteers are ‘adopted’ by host families, sharing their life with them for the duration of the experience. From waking up in the morning, to cooking, socialising and eating with your family, you will feel like you're home away from home!

03. VOLUNTEERING ABROAD IS BOTH A TEACHING AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITY

You may not feel confident in your own skills or expertise, but by volunteering abroad, you'll very quickly realise that everybody has something to offer - even you! By working alongside the communities in which you are living, there will be a constant exchange of knowledge and skills. Our volunteers in Sierra Leone were also able to teach classes at the school where they were building!

04. SEE THE LOCATION IN IT’S TRUE LIGHT

Volunteering abroad is a way of travelling like no other. When visiting a country as a typical tourist, often the true colours of a place will not be revealed to the full extent. By really getting the grit under your nails, you’ll see the country in its true light. Seeing the local spots, eating authentic local food and returning home with a whole host of rich new experiences and memories.

05. YOU'LL BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT

By volunteering, you will not only learn new life skills but you will become far more independent in doing so, and that’s something no one can take away from you. It may take some time to get used to unfamiliar environments, cultures and routines, but in the long run it will make you a stronger well-rounded individual who is more adaptable to anything thrown at them!

06. MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE

Even though it may sound cliché, the most important reason to volunteer abroad is to make a difference to the lives of others, be it an individual or a community. You should never lose sight of the social impact that volunteering can provoke and the lifelong affect you can have. The work we can do together to change people's lives is huge, and even being a small part of that can be hugely rewarding.
