VOLUNTEER opportunities

CAUKIN Studio operates international development projects which aim to improve the lives of communities globally through an exchange of culture, knowledge and skills. Teams of international volunteers work side-by-side with local people in developing countries to achieve this goal. CAUKIN's projects aren't a holiday. They are demanding but immensely rewarding and are a great way to make your world a better place, whilst providing an opportunity for personal development and a stepping stone towards future careers.

DESCRIPTION

Join us in April 2019 (13th - 26th) for 2 weeks, where we will be designing and building a human scale observation beehive pavilion at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. The scheme is in partnership with The B4 Project, who are working to conserve, protect and increase the population of the UK’s native honey bee, Apis mellifera mellifera.

The pavilion will display the intrinsic connection between the local plants and wildlife, specifically Apis mellifera mellifera and native Cornish flora, whilst simultaneously acting as a sculptural beacon, connecting Eden’s biomes and the Core to their new Cornish native corner. You will have a chance to explore the eden project whilst learning about design and getting stuck in with the construction of this space!

Applicants must be 18 years or older at project start date.

DESCRIPTION

This 4 or 8 week project, located in Zambia, Africa, will take a team of international volunteers to design, and build with the local community. Zambia is currently one of the poorest countries in the world. One where the government can only afford to educate its children from age 11 - 14, leaving behind a huge education gap. Children often leave school without any qualifications and stay in the village, trapped in poverty.

Our aim is to construct a ‘21st century’ skills centre which will provide these children and teenagers with opportunities to learn that they have previously never had. The centre will provide education in IT & Software, Business, Product Design, Fashion and Tailoring and much more! We will use the local vernacular combined with modern design techniques, to create spacious and inspiring environments for the students to learn within.

Applicants must be 18 years or older at project start date.

DESCRIPTION

This 4 week or 8 week project, located on Batiki Island, Fiji, will take a team of international volunteers to design and build with the local community. For the last 3 years, the Batiki locals have been working with Bula Batiki Coconut Oil to produce 100% natural coconut oil from Fiji. Sold all over the world, Bula Batiki Coconut Oil’s revenue is given back to the Batiki community. Currently the villagers have a limited space to work and have taken over the village community hall.

Our aim, during summer 2019, is to design and construct a coconut oil manufacture facility, which will give the community members a place to expand their business and produce more coconut oil to be able to generate more revenue - enabling them to improve their community facilities as a result.

Applicants must be 18 years or older at project start date.
